Lecture Summary:

Surgical emergencies can be very stressful for all.

This course will look at a variety of more commonly encountered conditions including GDV patients, nursing the patient with septic peritonitis, safe and effective anaesthesia and surgery for the caesarean section patient and dealing with haemoabdomen.

Nurses will gain a sound understanding of the importance of correct aseptic technique for surgical patients along with the commonly used instruments.

Diagnostic testing for emergency surgical patients will also be discussed.
