Lecture Summary:
Being faced with a crashing patient is a daunting thought, but training in delivery of effective CPR can literally mean the difference between life and death.
The course will start by focusing on the all-important triage, discuss the initial care of emergent and critical patients, then move on to more advanced procedures.
The theory behind CPR will be reviewed, followed by a description of how to perform CPR efficiently.
Discussion of the crash trolley will be covered, including a brief description of ECG interpretation in the crashing patient, how defibrillation works and when its use is indicated, why capnography is important in the coding patient, and appropriate drug use in CPR.
The day will finish with a hands-on practical session on CPR.
The key learning points from the day include:
- How to triage efficiently and concisely
- Understanding the do’s and don’ts following triage
- Managing more advanced critical patients
- Setting up a crash trolley/box
- Understanding and performing appropriate CPR
